Beauty | FOTD

Within the past year or so, I have just begun exploring the world of make-up.  I wore make up since high school, but I never knew how.  I have never been to a MAC counter for a color match, my mom didn't teach me how to apply eye shadow, my eyelashes are stick straight and I have a lazy eye so you would assume I was a walking mess.  Well, maybe prior to 2010 I was.

This look I am wearing is pretty much my everyday make-up.  It is comprised of all drugstore cosmetics and techniques from YouTube gurus (such as Xteeener & Frmheadtotoe).

Here are the products I used to get my look:

FACE

NYC Bronzer | Sunny
elf Studio Blush | Tickled Pink

EYES

JK Jemma Kid I-Design Eyeshadow | Silhouette Bone Ivory
NYX The Runway Collection Palette | Champaign and Caviar
NYX Gel Eyeliner | Jet Black
Volum' Express The Falsies Mascara | Waterproof Blackest Black
Eyebrow Cake Powder | Dark Brown

You can clearly see that my eyebrows could use some help and I am at the point where I might have to have some professional help with those bad boys.  I do not tend to wear false eyelashes but I will not leave the house without curling my eyelashes and mascara.

What are some of your everyday look products?

Hi! Let's get connected...

This is me | Hi! I'm Sarah and I'd love to connect with you.

Do you have a Twitter?  Or an Instagram?  Or maybe this thing called Facebook?

If you do, I'd love to connect with you.  Fair warning, I am absolutely 100% new to Twitter.  I have no idea how to use it, let alone what is cool on it.  So please be patient with me if I can't re-tweet or whatever it is this Twitter world is all about.

I do have an About Me page!  Have you seen it?  If not, check it out and here is even more about me:

  • I spend a lot of time in my home or my car [see photo above].  My husband travels a lot and many times my daughter and I can go along!
  • I absolutely love animals.  I have one cat and would love to have a dog, but my daughter is allergic to them.  Our recent pet addition has been 3 hermit crabs.
  • I hate to take risks.  I prefer safe... this blog is a huge risk for me.
  • I have a lazy eye [clearly visible in this photo].  When I was little and tired, you could barely see my pupil.
  • I wouldn't call myself a hoarder, but I hate throwing things away.  I hope that I can take the things I have already and make them into something wonderful and useful.

If you stumble upon this post, please let me know! Leave a comment, send me a tweet or instagram me. I will surely do the same back for you!

Confession: I wear kids shoes

Confession | I have something to tell you...

One thing that has always plagued me during my life was my feet.  No, I don't have a strange fungal growth on my toes nor do I have 6 toes, but I have exceptionally small feet.  I wear a women's size 4-4.5 or a girls size 2-2.5.  Now in proportion with my body my feet are the right size for my frame and I am very glad that don't wear a size 7 on my 5'1 frame, but finding affordable shoes is by far one of the most daunting tasks I have ever experienced.  (Not to mention finding the perfect pair of pants or jeans that don't need to be altered, but that's a completely different story.)

What you might learn about me while reading my blog is that I own a lot of kid sized shoes.  I wear a size 2 in TOMS, 2 1/2 in Jessica Simpson ballet flats, 2 in Converse and 3/4 in flip flops and I wear these shoes most of the time.  Before I even started a style blog I was wondering how on earth I could pull off this blog with the pathetic shoe collection I own?  And then I remembered that I am a mom and it's okay if I wear Chucks to run to the store or flip flops with a summer dress because that's what mom's do when they need to run after a 3 year old.

While making this blog, affordable feet wear will be my most challenging task and I apologize if all you ever see me in are flip flops and TOMS.  However, I do own heels.  I was a first grade teacher for a couple years and my worst fear was going to school in the same shoes as my students so I have invested in some heels that I will show on this blog, but they are pretty classic or just neutral shoes.

Oh how I wish (!!!!)  I had all the stylish shoes to showcase with my outfits, but unfortunately I just don't have the budget to do so.  So there it is... my first blog confession: I wear kids shoes.

Hello blogging community!

First Post!! | Welcome

I have put a lot of thought in to this blog, but very little action.  I guess I can say that I am a little apprehensive about actually starting this and keeping focused.  I have planned an outline for a posting schedule, brainstormed the potential layout, scouted everything on Pinterest and have become overwhelmed by all the talent and amazing blogs out there.  So back to square one... how in the world do I begin a blog in a world that is full of wonderful blogs?  Just start typing.  I have pretty much everything from my first round checklist:

  1. A title | by far the hardest thing to create.  You know, screen names (hello AOL), email addresses, eBay names, Etsy stores... luckily I had an idea and that helped create the name of my blog.
  2. A reason | it started out that I wanted to create a fashion blog with looks that were simpler then what I saw online.  Fashion has taken storm on Pinterest and other social media networks and every look is absolutely amazing.  Mixing textures, patterns, colors while adding accessories and out of this world nail art with killer heels and wedges are everywhere.  I wanted to be able to recreate those looks on a budget or using items already in my closet or refashioned from the thrift store.  I was searching for a simple style for myself and being a mom, it only seemed fitting.
  3. A camera | I have a Nikon D3200.  My grandpa gave me a tripod and my husband found me a remote control for the camera's timer.  What else do I need to start?
  4. Time   Motivation  | by far the hardest one yet.  I have a lot of time.  My daughter is pretty independent and when we aren't playing or learning, I have some time to watch my favorite YouTube beauty gurus or surf Instagram or Pinterest.  Now, I have to bite the bullet and begin.  It's been 6 months since the new year and now is a better time then never to start this new journey.
I am hope that you will follow this blog so you can get to know me and I can get to know you.  I have always enjoyed writing and meeting new people and I would be honored to join a wonderful community of bloggers.
